She was a girl that didn’t really believe in love until she met him. In one of those crazy romances where spending time together seemed insufficient, the days seemed to go by quickly. Right away, they bonded. They were the pair, with their shared playlists, inside humor, and “I’m here” hand squeezes. Being with him felt like an unreal experience. He made her feel secure, made her giggle, and gave her the courage to dream of an existence she never would have imagined was possible.
Then it was over. Not a warning. Just coldness where warmth had been. He mentioned that they needed space and that life was dragging them in different directions. Her dream abruptly ended, leaving behind a haze of memories and a sore chest.

Now that she’s awake, she grabs a phone that doesn’t light up with his name anymore. She passes the locations where they used to go together. The sound of his laughter fills her room with silence. Furthermore, despite her friends’ assurances that “you’ll get over him,” they are unaware of the significance of the voids he left.
She makes an effort to be all right. She does. But his face appears with each blink. It seems like every love song was composed specifically to make fun of her suffering. She is aware of the beauty of love. But nobody told her that it could feel like you’re drowning in slow motion when you’re missing someone.
With this scenario in mind, the poem below, written by one of our interns, feels relatable, and I hope you enjoy reading this piece as much as I enjoyed reading every bit of it!
I hope I miss you less than I like you
Being with you felt like a dream But when you’re not around, all I feel is blue And I’m drowning in this whirlpool of emotions People say love is beautiful and magical But they forget to tell you about the side effects of when it’s gone ALSO READ: Little people in the stars It hurts and it’s hard to breathe The memories haunt you and you see their face with every blink The more you love, the more it hurts, I guess I’m starting to accept that you won’t be a part of my forever story anymore So I really do hope I miss you a lot less than I liked you Because that seems the only way I can get through this sanity.
