Let’s have a brief conversation about something a little more profound than traffic or the latest trends. Have you ever had the feeling that you are fighting an internal battle? That never-ending struggle between doing what’s easy and what’s right? Between the two?
That is the main theme of this poem. Like two old rivals finally confronting the issue, I pictured Good and Bad sitting down to have a genuine conversation. No filters. No pretending. Just the facts.
The dialogue
Good: (firmly) No, we must speak. You cause discomfort and anguish with what you do. Quit now.
Bad: (smirking) Good, always the goody-two-shoes. Why should I stop? I'm simply enjoying myself immensely. People can't help but love me.
Good: (alarmed) Bad, that's the issue. Even though you might draw in humans, the road you choose will ultimately cause ruin. You might provide momentary gratification, but it comes at the price of lasting contentment and health.

Bad: (joking) Indeed, Good, isn't existence a pursuit of pleasure? I offer them all they want, and it's certainly not my error if they succumb to the lure.
Good: (harshly) It's regarding principles, ethical principles, and the betterment of humanity, Bad. You're destroying trust, propagating deceptions, and hurting vulnerable individuals.
Bad: (sly) Oh, come on, Good. You appear like you're flawlessly. But don't you see? I make daily existence stimulating. I oppose the status quo, whisk things up, and shake things up. Human beings require some adrenaline in their existence.
Good: (enthusiastically) I am not advocating for life to be stodgy but there is a difference between wholesome excitement and runaway anarchy. Let us inspire people to be their best, to affirm kindness rather than cruelty, and make the world a better place.

Bad: (defiantly) Well, I don't believe I need to change. People are going to be attracted to me regardless because it is enjoyable to be bad.
Good: (determined) Becoming a different person is not as relevant as making good decisions. With integrity, compassion, and being considerate, we can get people to make good decisions and direct them to happiness.
Bad: (stopping) Good, you might be correct. Perhaps some balance is required. I will always be a part of the human condition, nonetheless, so I shall not be erased entirely.
Good: (softening) You're right, Bad. A small amount of balance can be beneficial. But let's cooperate to lead people to a more hopeful and caring future.
Whose side are you on?
You see, Bad is genuinely endearing. It whispers shortcuts, pleasure, enjoyment, and immediate rewards. It gives you a sense of present-moment awareness. Good, though? Good is consistent. It subtly discusses enduring peace, acting morally when no one is looking, honesty, and compassion.
We’ve all been on both sides, let’s face it. Because it felt good at the time, we both smiled with Bad. And we’ve had trouble with good because sometimes making the right decision can be dull, isolating, or even painful.
What if both were to exist in harmony, though? What if we allowed Good to take the lead while acknowledging the attraction of Bad?
This poem makes reference to that. It is a dialogue rather than a sanctimonious monologue. A mirror. Asking ourselves, “Who’s louder in me right now — Good or Bad?” is what it is.
Therefore, keep in mind this brief exchange between Good and Bad the subsequent time you experience that internal tug. Individual’s experience includes both of them. You have the final say over who wins the contest, though.
Let’s choose wisely. Let’s keep building a brighter world.
