Sade, a 15-year-old girl was on the three-sitter in the living room watching her favorite TV series one cool evening when her sister, Temi burst into the sitting room with excitement. Sade jumped up with a startled look, rolled her eyes jokingly, and both sisters burst into laughter. “What’s up with you? Or do you want me to die from a Heart Attack before your 17th birthday next week?” Sade said feigning a frown. Temi said nothing but patted her sister’s cheek and said with a smile ” I wouldn’t mind at all”. Sade chased Temi with a pillow.

They have always been best friends since they were born. The sisters loved each other and never kept any secrets from each other. There were times when they had to stand up for each other regardless of the challenges they faced at home and school. “It’s us against the world!” they would often say to each other. Once, Sade had knocked out a senior’s teeth for bullying her sister, Temi. When they were in basic one, Temi had kept a dead rat in a teacher’s desk for flogging Sade for something she did not do.
Now the sisters are young beautiful teenagers in senior classes 2 and 3 attending Vivacious High School. Temi is a very intelligent, beautiful, and charismatic girl with honey coloured eyes, long hair, and a good sense of fashion. She is the head girl and the Miss Vivacious High. Sade on the other hand is athletic and more of a tomboy. She is the leading school basketball champion. However, she has a lovely singing voice, and rap and swag skills. She represented the school in a nationwide rap challenge and won. Their parents are rich business tycoons who make sure the girls never lack anything they need.

As they run around the house, Sade pretends to hurt her feet and Temi comes running to her. Temi hits her playfully and said, ” I got you.” The sisters both walk to the kitchen exhausted. Sade smiled at her sister and asked, “Temi if fairies do exist, what would you wish for your 17th birthday?” “Okay fairy godmother, I’d wish to have Peter back into my life” Temi replied with a sinking feeling in her heart as she thought about him. Peter was her first and only love. Temi had crushed on him for a long time before Peter initiated a conversation with her.
Peter is a tall handsome boy with dimples and a heartwarming smile. He is very lively and has a deep voice that sends shivers running down Temi’s spine whenever he speaks. The first day he spoke to her was heaven on earth for her. She had bumped into him at the school library. When she saw who she had bumped into, she stammered and batted her eyelids uncontrollably.
Peter smiled and introduced himself while walking her back to class. He waited for her after school and walked her to her car. Sade did not get a chance to meet him because she and Temi hardly ever saw each other in school. Due to the responsibilities shouldered on them, they gist and recount each day’s events to each other at home.

The first time Temi and Peter kissed, Temi, fainted in excitement. She had woken up in his arms with a loving look that melted her heart. He swore to never stop loving her even if the world came to an end. Temi was always happy until he suddenly vanished from their school. She had gone to his house to check up on him but saw that it was put up for sale. She was shocked because Peter did not bid her goodbye before leaving.
He had told her that he might likely relocate abroad with his parents because his father who is in the army has to take up an assignment. He didn’t want to leave his wife and children behind because the duty might take a very long time. Peter had told her that he would stay back to live with his grandparents because of her. Perhaps he is now at his grandparents’ and deliberately wants to play a prank on me. She thought as she smiled to herself.
She went to his grandparents’ house hoping to find him there. She was attended to by a neighbor who told her that the grannies had been taken to Abuja to stay with their daughter. As she walked home that day, she was heartbroken. Sade had tried to console her but she wasn’t having any of it. She waited for any news of him but got none. “Hey! Snap out of it! What are you thinking about?” Sade interrupted her thoughts, Temi sighed and said “At times, I think I might have done something wrong to Peter. He just left without a trace. I can’t forget him, Sade. He is my first love”

Sade hugged her sister and said assuring. “Sisto, you have to move on even if it is hard. It’s been two years now and he hasn’t resurfaced. Rather than dwelling in the past, spice up your present. If you two are meant to be, it will surely happen… Come on girl”… snapping her fingers vivaciously as she continued “….. You are one cool girl every guy is drooling over. I have my locker filled with love letters to deliver to you. I might have to start charging those guys cool cash to deliver their love letters to you.” She winked at Temi who smiled amidst the tears rolling down her cheeks.
She looked at Sade and said with a teary smile “I love you sister”. ” I love you more” Sade replied her. Then her face lit up as she remembered something. “Temi….. I have decided to give love a chance… you know, be in a relationship”. Temi smiled and said ” Awen Sisto, that is a very good step. Just don’t fall deeply in love with a ‘Peter’ that will run away and break your heart into tiny pieces”
Sade replied with a funny face “Nah, the guy I will date dear not be another ” runaway Peter” Instead of crying like you, I will make sure I hunt him down and break his heart and ribs. I don’t take nonsense!”

Why does your trip have to take so long?”. ” But honey, I’ve only been gone for less than 24 hours.” their father replied over the video call. Temi and Sade giggled at the reply. Their mother cooed “oh baby, even your daughters are missing you so badly. They said they are empty without you”. The girls looked amused. “
“When did we ever say that?” Sade whispered to Temi. Temi shrugged and whispered back “Mum is very dramatic, you know. Just let’s back her up before she brings down the house”. Almost immediately, their mother called out to them loudly, ” come on, back me up girls!” The sisters exchanged glances and said in unison. “Yes dad, we are empty without you!” They all burst into laughter including their dad. They are one happy family and they love one another until the unexpected happened…..
