In a suburban town in Colorado in 1965, there lived a young woman named Amelia Brooks. Amelia Brooks was a young beautiful blond with blue eyes and bright smile. She was not a regular girl; She was intelligent. From a very young age, Amelia was fascinated by the mysteries of the universe. Her eyes sparkled with wonder as she gazed up at the night sky, dreaming of what lay beyond the stars. “One day, I’ll journey beyond the stars,” She often told everyone who cared to listen.

Deep down, she knew she was cut out for something special. She knew she had a place…. a place even beyond the stars. When the first successful human spaceflight Vostok 1 (“East 1”) carrying the 27-year-old Russian, Yuri Gagarin on 12 April 1961 took the world by storm, Amelia knew her journey beyond the stars was a possible mission. She just needed to work harder to make it a reality.

Amelia’s passion for space was nurtured by her father, William Brooks. William who was a renowned astrophysicist. Together, they would spend countless hours in their backyard, stargazing and discussing the wonders of the cosmos. Amelia Brooks would often daydream of traveling to space However, as Amelia grew older, her dreams of exploring space faced a formidable adversary – societal expectations.

Richard can provide you with stability and security.” Amelia refused to relent. “Father, I promise to be safe. Please understand; this is my calling, my destiny.” Williams sighed deeply. He did not want her to end up failing in her dreams. To him, she should be just like her mother. She should be married to a rich elderly man like Richard Thornton who would take good care of her and secure her future and the family legacy. Her mother’s dying wish was to take care of their daughter and secure a future for her. He stared at his daughter gazing at the stars in determination. He knew how determined she can be in whatever she set her mind on.

If you promise to be careful and never put yourself in unnecessary danger, I will support you in your quest to explore space.” Amelia’s heart soared with hope. “Thank you, Father. “And I know she is proud of you, father.” Amelia responded. Williams smiled as he reminisced the good old times with his late wife. Suddenly he said, “Promise me you will have a family.” “No, father.” Amelia responded defiantly. “What?!” Williams stared at her in horror as his heart sank. Amelia burst into laughter. “Just kidding, father. Of course, I will have my own family.” Williams sighed in relief as he said, “Okay, silly.” “Father, I will have a family. But not Richard Thornton!” She asserted.

Stop the bother and go for them!” Amelia had responded.

Her father said nothing as he watched the exchange between his business partner and daughter. “Williams! Our deal is off!” Richard thundered at him and stormed out of their house. “I’m sorry, father. But I had to.” She whispered to her father. He gave her a knowing smile and patted her back before strolling out of the house for some fresh air.
